A Week In The Life Of A GMB ULR

Here Beryl Mulroy a GMB ULR from Tameside Council shares one weeks activities organised and supported by GMB in partnership with Tameside MBC and other Unions on site.  This particular week was an opportunity for all union members and colleagues to access the services of a ULR within their work place and to experience first hand the variety of courses and opportunitiues available. 

Day 1:GMB Reachout Learning Bus to tour Tameside Borough.

 8.30 - 12.30 Information on learning opportunities and the Skills Pledge provided from the Bus to members working in Licensing, Pest Control, Recycling and District Assembly.

 12.30 - 4.30 Taster sessions in aromatherapy and holiday Spanish run from the Bus for members.

Day 2: Organised Learning at Work Day - Ashton Town Hall

Author Tim Drake gives an inspiring talk on how learning makes a difference in peoples' lives.

Free Indian Head Massage to help workers deal with everyday stresses.

Debt Awareness workshop to support colleagues in managing money better.

British Sign Language taster sessions as part of the commitment to Equality and Diversity

Practical support sessions based on Keeping Up With Kids' Homework

Day 3: Set up partnership event with Local Library Service

Launch of the 6 book challenge to encourage members at Loxley House and Frederick House to read more and improve their literacy skills.

A tremendous week for the Tameside ULR Forum which put together a great range of opportunities for members to access training and improve their skills.
