Getting On in Tameside

Tue 24th Nov 2009
A number of GMB members at Tameside M.B.C. have recently completed qualifications with the help of the Get On In Tameside project and GMB ReachOut. The successful candidates received their certificates from the Mayor of Tameside Council at a ceremony to celebrate their achievements held in the Mayor's Parlour on November 5th.
The Get on In Tameside Project is coordinated by Beryl Mulroy, GMB Lead ULR, and works closely with Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council, TUC Unionlearn and unions to promote the lifelong learning agenda across the borough among employees, friends, family and also local residents.
"We have had great successes, particularly with our District Assemblies staff and employees attached to our Learning Disability service, including union and non union members, Learning across these service areas has been well received and some of our Learners have now become either GMB or Unison Union Learner reps in order to help their colleagues achieve and enjoy the learning agenda as they have done. We are so proud of our Learners, as is the current Mayor who wished to celebrate these great achievements with us"
GMB ReachOut Project Worker Matt Bowe commented; "Beryl has worked incredibly hard over the last few years to get this far and she shows no signs of stopping. Her determination, dedication and commitment to her fellow Union members and colleagues has been second to none and we look forward to continuing to work with her as the project develops."
