Quick Reads Campaign

Quick Reads Campaign

Wed 31st Aug 2016

1 in 6 adults of working age in the UK find reading difficult and may never pick up a book.  People's reasons for not reading are varied but are often based on fear. Some people say they find books intimidating, or that books are difficult or boring.

Quick Reads books set out to challenge these beliefs and to show that books and reading can be for everyone. Each year big name authors write short books that are specifically designed to be easy to read.  They are the same as mainstream books in every respect but are simply shorter and easier to tackle for those who are less confident in their reading skills.

Since 2006 Quick Reads have distributed over 4.5 million books and registered 3 million library loans. The campaign continued into its eighth year for 2014. These "short, sharp, shots of entertainment" are available from supermarkets, bookshops and online at just 1.99 - we also have all titles in stock at across our learning hubs.

Quick Reads are bite sized books by big name authors and celebrities. They are perfect to engage people with reading as they are short and use clear language but still have fast-paced, brilliant storylines. Quick Reads can be a more satisfying alternative to a magazine or newspaper. They are easy to read and there is a great range of titles to choose from.

The titles include:

Last Night another Soldier by Andy NcNab

The Perfect Holiday by Cathy Kelly

The Perfect Murder by Peter James

Doctor Who: Code of the Krillitanes by Justin Richards

 Hello Mum by Bernardine Evaristo

 Money Magic by Alvin Hall

Traitors of the Tower by Alison Weir

We Won The Lottery by Danny Buckland

Life's Too Short: True Stories of Life at Work foreword by Val McDermid

Quick Read books can be found in all of our ACT Centres.
